FASTING AND ABSTINENCE

During Lent Catholics observe special days of fasting and/or abstinence. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of both fasting and abstinence. That means we abstain from eating meat (abstinence) and we eat only one full meal on those days (fasting). A light snack two other times during the day is acceptable on days of fasting. Every Friday of Lent we abstain from eating meat.

Abstinence applies to every Catholic over the age of 14 years. Fasting applies to every Catholic between the ages of 18 and 60 years and any other who would choose to participate. Anyone with health concerns that would not allow them to fast (or abstain) is exempt from these rules. We do this communally for several reasons: as a form of penance, to help us bond more closely with the plight of the poor and to symbolize our hunger for God. Acts of fasting and abstinence should be accompanied by special works of charity and prayer throughout Lent.

Thanks to all who bring food every week. It is used for those who need help in the parish. These are difficult times for many. You help good folks to eat and to maintain their dignity. Thank you!
ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Adoration is on Mondays from 4:30pm until 6:30pm and on Wednesdays immediately following the 7:00am Mass until 1:00pm.
We need attendance for the later hours on Wednesday. It is essential that someone always be present in the chapel while the Blessed Sacrament is exposed. Please consider signing up for a dedicated time each week or just stopping by to spend a few minutes with Jesus. To sign up or for more information, please call Tracy at 721-6702 or Shirley at 882- 2507. Adoration is a powerful and beautiful prayer opportunity to be with the Lord in a special way. All are welcome to come and pray in the quiet before the Eucharist.
